NATIONAL: Marco Experiences—a marketplace for virtual, hybrid and in-person team-building experiences—is launching a Heritage & Awareness Month Experience Series. For Black History Month in February, the company will offer experiences centered around race, culture and the Black experience; future experiences will center around Women’s History Month in March, Mental Health Awareness Month in May, AAPI Heritage Month in May, and Pride Month in June.
EDMONTON: Survivorfest Running Event will take place June 11-12 at Strathcona Athletic Park in Sherwood Park. The timed running event—which allows participants to join for six hours, 12 hours or 24 hours—raises funds and awareness for Saffron Centre, a sexual assault center that educates children in community schools about sexual violence. There will also be relay teams and virtual events for those who can’t attend in person.
TORONTO: The new Winter Glow event is turning Black Creek Pioneer Village into a winter wonderland for guests to enjoy either on foot or from their cars. Running on select nights from Feb. 4-27, the 1.8-kilometer experience has winter-themed light installations, ice sculptures, snow globes, snow carvings, a light show set to music and plenty of photo ops.
Ace Hotel Toronto, the first Canadian location for the boutique hotel group, is slated to open in Toronto’s Fashion District this year. Overlooking a local park, the 124-room property is being designed by Shim-Sutcliffe Architects with an industrial feel, including raw elements like exposed joints and bricks. An opening date has not yet been confirmed for the property.
VANCOUVER: Organizers of the Vancouver Mural Festival will once again host the VMF Winter Arts event. Running from Feb. 11-27, the free public event essentially turns downtown Vancouver into an open-air art gallery, complete with AR-enabled art, light installations and live performances presented in a COVID-safe way. New this year will be Winter Arts Hub, a central outdoor space with food, drinks, art and performances.
