CANADA: New COVID-19 Travel Restrictions, Vancouver’s First Michelin Guide, Canada Games’ Hall of Honour, and More

GLOBAL: LP Connexio is a new company that helps organizations improve staff morale via consultations, one-on-one coaching, seminars, roundtables, and assessments of job satisfaction—and in September is launching its latest offering, STEAM, which stands for “stress, tension, exhaustion, aggravation, and meltdown." The company serves as a consultant for businesses, helping managers recognize the signs of burnout and providing guidance on how to authentically appreciate employee efforts on a daily basis. For staffers, the company asks about challenges impacting their work, and discusses the unique attributes that landed them the job.

NATIONAL: As of Aug. 5, Canada has reinstated randomized COVID-19 testing for international passengers arriving at airports in Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, and Toronto. Visitors may be selected for random testing after arrival, and if the test is positive, they face a 10-day hotel quarantine. In addition, all visitors to Canada are required to be fully vaccinated.

Broadcaster Don Goodwin will be posthumously inducted into the Canada Games Hall of Honour this week, as part of the event's 28th edition taking place in Niagara, Ont. Goodwin, who died in 2018, volunteered his services to the first edition of the games in 1967, lending credibility and media attention to the sporting event and building an ongoing partnership with CBC Sports. Goodwin also served as master of ceremonies at the Rogers Cup for 35 years.

TORONTO: Canada’s first Canopy by Hilton hotel is slated to open in Toronto’s Yorkville neighborhood in November. The 184-room property is expected to have more than 3,573 square feet of event space and six meeting rooms, along with an indoor heated pool, yoga and fitness studios, a restaurant, and a retail boutique.

VANCOUVER: The highly anticipated, inaugural MICHELIN Guide to Vancouver hotels was recently released, with the brand’s travel experts selecting eight local properties: Loden Hotel, Opus Hotel, Fairmont Pacific Rim, Shangri-la Hotel, Rosewood Hotel Georgia, EXchange Hotel, L’Hermitage Hotel, and The Douglas. The coveted list of the world’s best hotels and restaurants recently launched in Canada. Vancouver and Toronto are currently the only Canadian cities to be highlighted.
