US: Toy Fair Canceled, Oscars Director Announced, Washington, D.C. Gets a New EDM Festival and More

LAS VEGAS: Michelin-starred steakhouse Peter Luger is expanding domestically for the first time in over 60 years, opening its first U.S. location outside of New York in late 2022. The new location will be located at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, near popular restaurant Mr. Chow.

LONG BEACH, CALIF: Nationally traveling hard seltzer festival Seltzerland will take place at the Bixby Village Golf Course in Long Beach on Feb. 5. Attendees at the outdoor event will be able to leisurely walk around the golf course while sampling over 100 flavors of hard seltzers from top brands like White Claw, Mike’s Hard Lemonade Seltzer, Vizzy and more. Tickets are on sale now. 

LOS ANGELES: Oscars show producer Will Packer has announced that veteran director Glenn Weiss will return to direct the 94th Oscars. Weiss has directed numerous live televised events, including six previous Oscars shows and 20 Tony Awards shows. The Oscars will air live on ABC and broadcast to outlets worldwide on March 27.

NEW YORK: The Toy Association has canceled this year’s Toy Fair New York, originally scheduled for Feb. 19-22 at the Javits Center. The trade show had been expected to draw 700 exhibitors, but some key toy companies like MGA Entertainment had already pulled out due to COVID-19 concerns. It’s the second year in a row that the 117-year-old trade show's in-person event was canceled.

WASHINGTON, DC: Event company Insomniac and local promotions company Club Glow have announced Project GLOW, a new two-day electronic music festival taking place April 30 to May 1 on the RFK Festival Grounds. There will be two curated stages of music, plus food and beverage offerings and art exhibits at the festival; tickets for the 18-and-over gathering go on sale Jan. 14.
