As the chairman and founder of BizBash, I have seen the event industry evolve over the years. From small gatherings to large conferences, the role of event organizers, meeting planners, party planners, and conference planners has become increasingly important. Yet, they are often overlooked and underappreciated.
This is why I wrote the book Harnessing Serendipity: Collaboration Artists, Conveners and Connectors. I wanted to elevate the craft of event organizing to a higher form that would get the attention and respect of the general public. Just like celebrity chefs, event organizers have the power to change the world. A brilliant climate conference can actually make a difference and create positive change.
By calling event organizers "collaboration artists," we are assuming that their execution will be perfect and that the art of connecting people to reach the desired objective of the gathering is the most important aspect of the job.
This book interviews 66 collaboration artists who are all doing it differently, showcasing the importance of high-impact, artful collaboration in event organizing. It is part of the BizBash philosophy that has made us successful in allowing people to peek over the fence to see how others are doing it.
We need to celebrate event organizing as a respected line of work. Collaboration is the key to success, and event organizers are the collaboration artists that bring people together to create something truly special.
In addition to elevating event organizing to a higher form, we also want to raise the self-esteem of our entire industry. Event organizers, meeting planners, party planners, and conference planners are often seen as behind-the-scenes workers, but they are the ones who make events happen. They are the ones who bring people together and create memorable experiences.
We want event organizers to feel proud of their work and to be recognized for their contributions. By showcasing the importance of high-impact, artful collaboration in event organizing, we hope to inspire others to see the value of this profession and to respect it as much as any other.
Through "harnessing serendipity," we aim to give event organizers the tools and knowledge they need to succeed and to feel confident in their abilities. We want them to know that they are not just planners, but collaboration artists who have the power to create something truly special.
Join us in creating a new era of high-impact collaboration, and make it a hallmark of mankind to carry us into a brighter future—a future with more people than ever before—motivated and empowered to work together to solve problems and invent the new and improve the lives of people around the world.
Harnessing Serendipity is available wherever books are sold in print, on-demand, audio, books, and eBooks. Let's work together to elevate event organizing to a higher form, raise the self-esteem of our entire industry, and make a positive impact on the world.
